Dreaming of a plumped pout but feeling a little daunted about undergoing filler injections for the first time? Don’t worry, it’s not uncommon! We’ve put together some of the most important facts about lip injections so that you can spend less time worrying about your first appointment and more time thinking about the fabulous results.

1. Filled Lips Feel Natural!

Yes, believe it or not, filled lips feel just like natural lips when the procedure is performed by a skilled practitioner using high-quality products.

2. Results are Immediate

Unlike some cosmetic treatments which take a few days before results can be seen, you can walk out of the treatment room with a beautiful pout as soon as your procedure is over. You may notice a little swelling for a couple of days, but you’ll be able to get a really good idea of the finished look as soon as your treatment is over.

3. HA Lip Injections Can Be Reversed in Minutes

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers (like Restylane and Volbella) can easily be reversed using the enzyme hyaluronidase, which works to dissolve the filler. This means if you’re unhappy with the results, you’re not stuck with them.

4. Minor Bruising and Swelling Is Nothing to Be Alarmed About

It’s very common to see some bruising and swelling after having lip injections; this can last for up to a week, though it can usually be masked with a touch of makeup. To keep bruising to a minimum, you could avoid taking medications which cause blood thinning for 10 days before your appointment; just be sure to check with your doctor that it is safe to do so.

5. There’s Absolutely No Downtime

You’ve no need to take time off work or take time out after having lip injections, which makes them super convenient. Just remember that you may experience swelling and bruising as mentioned above, so if you have any big events coming up, get your fillers done at least a week in advance to ensure your lips look absolutely perfect.

6. Avoid Exercise and Alcohol on the Day

Although you can resume your day pretty much as normal after lip injections, we do advise that you steer clear of alcohol and exercise, just to ensure you get the best results possible from the fillers.

7. Topical Anesthetics are Available

Lip injections are by no means completely pain-free, but they’re not excruciating either. However, everyone’s pain threshold is different and if you’re feeling really daunted about pain, there’s always the option to apply a topical numbing cream before the injections begin. Many fillers also contain lidocaine to help keep discomfort to a minimum.

8. Lip Augmentation Is an Art and a Science

The expert aestheticians here at our medical spa are not just top scientists in their field but also artists. It takes a great deal of skill and knowledge to get the very best results from the different fillers on the market since each one is capable of producing unique results.

9. Full Customization Is to Be Expected

There isn’t a one size fits all approach to lip injections and you can choose to focus on key areas to achieve the look you want. Some people request fillers only in the bottom lip to create a fuller pout, whereas others might request fillers just around the cupid’s bow to enhance the shape of your lip. Skilled injectors can create completely bespoke treatments to achieve your perfect look.

10. You Can Use Celebrity Photos as a Reference for Your Injector

If you have a certain look in mind, feel free to bring along a few photos – lots of people do it! However, your injector will also take your own unique anatomy in mind in order to create results that not only fit in with your desired look but also perfectly complement your unique facial features.

11. Results Aren’t Permanent

Unlike lip implants which are surgically inserted and permanent, lip injections tend to last between 4 to 6 months, at which point more fillers are needed to maintain the same look. This is ideal for those who want to have a ‘trial run’ with a fuller pout, or who may want to change the size and shape of their lips in future.

12. Costs of Lip Injections Can Vary Greatly

The cost of lip injections can vary depending on the type of augmentation required and the types of fillers used, so be sure to come and chat with us about your budget and we’ll see what we can do for you.
