A study conducted by the American Society of Dermatological Surgery in 2002 revealed that half of the many Americans who get tattoos eventually want them removed. There are several reasons why people can become unhappy with their tattoos, but some of the most common are:
- Career – Tattoos that are highly conspicuous and display certain images or ideals that might be offensive to others can pose a problem for people who want to pursue a job or advance their career in more conservative fields.
- Dissatisfaction – Some people tend to be dissatisfied with tattoos that have faded overtime.
- Maturity – One in five Americans who want their tattoos removed say they failed to consider the consequence of having a tattoo because they were too young when they got it.
