Full lips are often seen as one of the defining aspects of beauty. For those who feel their lips aren’t as plump as they could be, or those who have lost volume in their lips as a result aging, lip fillers are an excellent way of improving their appearance. There are a wide range of non-surgical lip enhancement options available, but each one has a slightly different purpose suited for each person individually. Here we will introduce you to some of the highly successful lip enhancement procedures available at our medical spa.

LIP FILLERS

Dermal fillers are perhaps the most common types of lip enhancement options. These procedures involve a series of injections which add volume to key areas of the face. Dermal fillers can be injected in various areas of the face, including the jaw, cheeks and around the mouth, but in this case they are injected directly into the lips. The best thing about lip fillers is that the procedure is very quick and you can continue with your day as normal afterwards. The procedure itself shouldn’t take very much longer than about 15 minutes which is ideal for the busy patient. Plus, it is significantly cheaper than other surgical lip enhancement procedures such as implants. The only side effect of having dermal fillers injected in the lips is a little swelling and possible minor bruising, which usually dissipates within just 24 hours and many patients may not experience it at all. The effects of the treatment are not permanent and typically last between 9 and 12 months. If you happen to decide that the finished look isn’t really right for you, you can rest assured that the results do not last forever.

TYPES OF LIP FILLERS

There is a wide variety of lip fillers on the market, but two of the best ones offered here at Aesthetica Med Spa are Juvederm Ultra XC and Restylane Silk. Both have slightly different purposes. Juvederm Ultra XC has only recently been FDA approved for use in the lips, but has for long time been used elsewhere on the face. It is a powerful filler with the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid in order to provide long-lasting results that remain for up to a year. Restylane Silk is another hyaluronic acid-based filler, designed to be a soft, cohesive gel which helps it integrate into tissues and create a very natural and even result. It is best used for smoothing out the lip lines and minimizing the appearance of fine lines around the lips.

FAT TRANSFER

This is the process of taking fatty tissue from other areas of the body (usually the hips or abdomen) and injecting it into the lips to add volume. Fat transfers are more invasive than lip fillers and require a little more downtime, but it is usually performed as outpatient procedure which does not require an overnight stay. It can give more permanent results than fillers, but physicians tend not to have quite as much control over the final result than when using dermal fillers.
