One of the latest treatments to be welcomed to the Aesthetica Med Spa portfolio is a revolutionary anti-aging procedure called
Silhouette InstaLift. It works to re-contour the face and restore definition in a way like no other non-surgical procedure can. Let’s take a look at exactly what re-contouring is, and why it can help to rejuvenate an aging complexion.
Understanding the Loss of Facial Definition
As we age, there are four key changes that occur that impact the structure of our faces:
- Our top layers of skin lose volume and elasticity
- Fat pads underneath our skin become thinner
- Facial muscles become weaker
- Facial bones change shape
The impact of these changes doesn’t just cause sagging skin and wrinkles, but it also dramatically alters the shape of our faces, particularly around the side of the face and the cheeks. Not only do we lose volume in our cheeks due to a loss of fat pads and a reduction of collagen in the skin, but our weakened muscles and changing bone structure can also contributes to a lack of definition. Where we once had high, defined cheekbones in our youth, the face becomes flatter and appears to droop downwards as we age.
The severity of this changing face structure depends on a variety of factors. Loss of skin elasticity can be worsened by things like excess sun exposure, smoking, poor hydration and diet, while changing hormone levels, particularly during menopause, can contribute to muscle weakness. However, our genetics also play a major role in the way our bodies age. Unfortunately, some people are simply more likely to experience a dramatic change in their bone shape and face structure than others as they age.
Re-Contouring Solutions
Luckily, there are plenty of cosmetic procedures available that can help to restore the natural contours of the face. The types of procedures you should have greatly depends on the unique problem areas you’re experiencing, but the best results are often achieved with a combination of treatments.
Sagging Skin
If your aging complexion is suffering from skin laxity – where the skin appears to droop downwards resulting in deep set folds such as those around each side of the mouth – dermal fillers are often a good solution. They’re injected directly into wrinkles and lines to add a touch of volume to plump up the skin. Sagging skin can also be dealt with effectively through radio-frequency treatments such as Forma by Invasix, or with microdermabrasion procedures which help to provide a temporary tightening effect while resurfacing the skin.
Wrinkles
We often develop wrinkles as a result of the skin folding in key areas during repeated facial expressions. To alleviate this, we can have
Botox or Dysport injections to relax facial muscles temporarily in order that the skin no longer folds. These types of injectables don’t add volume to the face, but they can smooth out wrinkles in key areas such as the forehead or between the eyes.
Lost Volume
To treat a loss of volume in key areas of the face due to an aging complexion, it’s possible to use injectables like Restylane or Voluma, the latter being particularly helpful for adding some extra volume to the apples of the cheeks.
Loss of Cheekbone Definition
Although fillers may be able to create a more lifted appearance to the cheeks to a certain extent, they only really work on the upper layers of tissue. They can create subtle volume where fat pads have become smaller, but they don’t do anything to lift deep layers of tissue which have started to droop. That’s where Silhouette InstaLift comes in.
InstaLift involves the placement of fine sutures into the deep layers of facial tissue. The sutures have bidirectional cones which work to elevate the tissues and gently reposition them into a higher, lifted position. They’re carefully placed along the length of the cheeks to help redefine the cheekbones and create a more contoured, defined facial structure.
