INJECTABLES AND DERMAL FILLERS
Injectables and dermal fillers – known as ‘liquid facelifts’ – are incredibly popular cosmetic treatments here at Aesthetica Med Spa. The likes of Botox, Juvederm and Radiesse can help to alleviate those little imperfections which tend to give away our age. Facial wrinkles, creases, folds and lack of volume in lips, temples and cheeks are common effects of aging, but injectables and fillers are fast, affordable and non-invasive ways of alleviating them, making us look more youthful and feel more confident.
THE BENEFITS OF INJECTABLES OVER SURGERY
Compared to surgical cosmetic procedures, injectables and fillers are faster, less expensive and less invasive.
Injectables and dermal filler procedures generally take less than an hour to perform. Plus, there is no downtime: you can get back to your usual routine straight away, with very minimal swelling or pain.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF INJECTABLES
There are many different types of injectables and fillers available so it can be a bit of minefield to choose the right one. When you book your free consultation with us, your experienced physician will discuss your needs and advise you on the best treatment plan, but it’s always helpful to have a general understanding of the varieties of injectables on offer.
Dermal fillers are often used for treating deep set facial wrinkles, and they can also add volume to hollow areas such as the cheeks, temples and under the eyes, all of which are common effects of aging. There are three different types of dermal fillers available:
- HYALURONIC ACID (HA)
HA fillers are the most popular option since they are designed to bind water molecules in order to add volume beneath the skin. They’re regularly used to plump lips, smooth wrinkles and folds and remove scars, with their effects lasting between four and six months. We have a range of HA dermal fillers available, including Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma, and Belotero.
- CALCIUM-BASED MICROSPHERES
Radiesse, which is one of our most popular injectables, is a type of calcium-based filler. It helps to rebuild the foundation of your skin in order to plump and rejuvenate skin and leave it feeling softer and silkier. It tends to be used on any areas which have clear signs of aging, and is suitable to be used on large areas of the face.
- POLY-L-LACTIC ACID
Dermal fillers made from poly-L-lactic acid tend to be used to correct nasolabial folds – the smile lines at each side of the mouth – and other contour deficiencies. These types of fillers help to stimulate collagen production in order to create a fuller, younger-looking appearance.
Neurotoxins, also referred to as neuromuscular toxins, are primarily also used to smooth skin and alleviate wrinkles, but they are usually used to tackle much finer lines than dermal fillers do. They work by blocking nerve signals in order to stop muscles from moving. This may sound a little scary, but when used in very small quantities neurotoxins can successfully relax the muscles that are the cause of facial lines.
Botox is perhaps one of the best known forms of neurotoxin, but we also provide Dysport here at our Austin spa. The effect of both treatments lasts between three and six months, during which time you’ll have gorgeously smooth, youthful skin.
This FDA-approved treatment is designed to remove fullness under the chin without invasive surgery or liposuction. Once injected into the skin it breaks down and absorbs fat cells, successfully removing a once obvious double chin.
Using injectables for medical conditions
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, occurs as a result of hyperactive sweat glands which produce more sweat than is needed to regulate the body’s temperature. Botox injections have been approved by the FDA as a successful way to treat; the procedure works by blocking nerve signals which cause the glands to produce sweat.
At Aesthetica Med Spa we also offer radio-frequency ablation of sweat glands to permanently reduce excessive sweating. Two treatments are usually needed, but the results are effective and the treatment is very well tolerated.
