In Austin Microneedling, also often referred to as collagen induction therapy, is a non-surgical skin resurfacing procedure which can create smoother, more youthful skin and a more even complexion.
As the name suggests, the treatment involves the use of multiple ultra-fine needles to penetrate the skin in order to stimulate the growth of new tissues and the production of elastin and collagen. Put simply, microneedling encourages the tissues to repair and heal in order to rejuvenate the skin. It can reduce the appearance of acne scars, fine wrinkles, sun damage, stretch marks and other skin imperfections.
HOW IS MICRONEEDLING PERFORMED?
At Aesthetica Med Spa, microneedling is performed using a hand-held device that looks like a pen. A single-use cartridge containing 12 surgical steel micro-needles is inserted into it, and when the device is turned on the needles rotate and the pen is pressed gently against the skin across the treatment area.
Although only the very top layers of skin are penetrated during Austin microneedling, the procedure can cause a small amount of discomfort which is why a topical gel is applied beforehand to gently numb the area. Sometimes other topical skincare products such as hyaluronic acid or StemGlo PRP serum will be applied just after the microneedling process in order to maximize results.
To achieve the best results it is often recommended to have multiple Austin microneedling treatments; the number and frequency will vary according to the size of the treatment area and the type of skin problem being tackled.
